If the effect of shows like Top Chef and Project Runway is any indication, the number of people thinking about getting their interior design degree will soon be on the rise. That’s because there’s a brand new reality show coming to television …Top Designer.

The show, which focuses on identifying a rising star of interior design, is scheduled to premier on Bravo in January. It will be hosted by designer Todd Oldham.

Interior Design Meets Reality Contest

Until now only foodies and fashionistas could tune in to watch their heroes and heroines compete for a life-changing prize and a shot at making it really big. That will be change this January when Bravo rolls out a brand new reality show, Top Design. As with the other shows, each week contestants will be presented with a “challenge” to master, except that this time the challenge involves interior design.

Winning Interiors

In order to win, the contestants, some of whom hold interior design degrees, will need to demonstrate their creativity, patience, time-management skills and aesthetic sensibilities. These traits encompass what it takes to master the profession of interior design. In this case however, it isn’t about a winning a client or a new account. Instead, the Top Design winner will take home $100,000, a brand new vehicle, and will receive a magazine editorial as well as an opportunity to showcase his or her skills at a design event.

Insider Look at Interior Design

While “reality” television contests such as Top Design typically make enjoyable viewing, for those considering getting an interior design degree it’s a unique opportunity to observe what working as an interior designer is really like. Tuning in will also give you the opportunity to see how having an interior design degree can help you to develop and master the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in this highly competitive industry.
