While interior designers, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, draw on a number of disciplines to improve the safety and function of a home’s interior, they are also called upon to enhance the aesthetics, and that means, at times, creating as well as keeping a breast of the latest design trends. And this year, change is in the air.
A recent gathering of furniture retailers, magazine editors, and other interior design pros at a furniture trade show in North Carolina made it clear that the hottest trends in ‘07 are going to be the color blue, building “green” and the”formalization of the outdoor room.
Hot Home Interior Design Trends
Love the look of wood when paired with the color blue? You’re not alone—and starting next year you’re going to be seeing a lot of it because the color blue is one of the hottest trends in home interior design. In addition to blue walls and accent pieces, many manufacturers are producing couches, loveseats and ottomans in any number of blue shades. Along with blue - green is “in” too. Eco-friendly green that is. Not only are more manufactures finding benefits in choosing sustainable materials, they are finding that consumers are willing to shell out more green for it as well. In addition to eco-friendly/green materials and the color blue, another big trend for ‘07 is making the “outdoor room” (a hot trend during the past few years) more formal—in both design and décor. But making the right decisions can be a challenge which is why many homeowners hire a professional interior designer to incorporate their personal style without losing site of what makes for a more hip interior.
Getting Your Interior Design Degree
If the idea of working with home owners in selecting different colors, textures, furniture, and lighting as well as arranging these elements in order to bring a space together, sounds appealing then maybe it’s time to consider getting an interior design degree.
