Many people still think that all drafting jobs use CAD—computer aided design—to dream up architectural designs. After all, we’re familiar with seeing the work of drafting professionals on building blueprints. However, a growing number of CAD experts design things that don’t remain stationary. You can use the skills you gain from drafting courses to help design moving vehicles, including race cars, boats, and airplanes.
Designing and building race cars is an expensive passion, and a highly competitive sport. CAD experts in drafting jobs simulate new designs for Formula One and NASCAR racing teams. Computer drafting tools have now become so affordable, that hobbyists and small businesses can use CAD software to develop faster cars and more efficient engines.
To stay in business, boat builders must also maintain high levels of efficiency. Therefore, they rely on CAD professionals to mock up designs of everything from cruise ships to cargo vessels. A drafting job can save a company millions of dollars in failed experiments, while reducing the time and budget necessary to deliver a new boat to a client.
High Flying Drafting Jobs Watch the Ground, Too
Finally, aircraft companies like Boeing rely on drafting professionals for other interesting reasons. When developing new airplanes for commercial use, drafting professionals employ models of existing airport facilities to make sure that the latest designs are not so innovative that they won’t fit into existing gates and terminals.
Courses in drafting using the latest CAD software can grant you access to careers in the transportation industry. Even better, online courses that let you run sophisticated software on your own computer can allow you to pursue a new career without traveling to a campus. Once you master CAD software, you can let your imagination guide you to a fun and rewarding drafting job.
