Human Resources is an excellent career choice for those who are outgoing, people-oriented, and good negotiators. As a rule, human resources specialists deal daily with issues that affect people in the workplace. Your must have excellent communication skills, enjoy working with a variety of people from a variety of backgrounds, and be able to deal with employee concerns and issues with tact and grace.
Options for employment in human resources abound, and because of the people oriented nature of the job, openings are in high demand. Most human resource specialists earn a two or four year degree, with an emphasis or major in human resource management. Human Resource, or HR, professionals utilize management, communication, and facilitation skills to help protect employees and businesses. They deal with issues that include everything hiring employees, to on-the-job injuries, to sexual harassment, to workplace safety measures, to discord between employees.
One HR career option is to work as a benefits specialist. This position is primarily in charge of setting up benefits plans for employees. When new hires enter the company, a benefits specialist will explain the benefits options including healthcare, savings plans, and any other benefits that come with the position, and help the employee choose the package that best fits their lifestyle. Benefits specialists may also be called upon to research new health or financial plans.
An HR Recruiter is another career option. Recruiters can be employed to work within a company to look for, contact, and interview people for available positions. An in-house recruiter will have knowledge of the different positions within the company and be able to accurately screen applicants to pass the most qualified into an interview with internal staff. Recruiters may also work for recruiting firms. These firms are hired by businesses to look for potential hires. Recruiters at recruiting firms often have specialized knowledge of a particular industry or a particular type of job.
